Red-bellied Woodpecker

Today started out fantastic and continued to be so all day. :)
Two of my buddies, one of which is having a birthday today (Happy Birthday Eric!) visited me at work today and brought me a wonderful gift: a book and audio CD titled "Birds of the Carolinas: Field Guide" by Stan Tekiela. The book has some amazing photographs of birds in our area, as well as their calls on THREE cd's. Honestly, it's one of the best gifts I've ever received. And what's more fun than getting a gift on someone else's birthday? ;) Thanks, Dawnia & Eric!
I had lunch with my sweet hubby and then got to leave work early around 4 p.m. I came home, let my dogs out of their kennel and played with them for a while and then sat down with my new book and my camera in hand. I identified over 10 varieties of birds in my front yard and took photos (over 200) of all of them. :) I posted some on my Flickr site HERE and will finish tomorrow.
Yep, it has just been a great day. It was beautiful outside and it felt so good to be home early--even if it was just an hour earlier than the norm.
Life is good.... :o)

Well I'm not one to resist the Resistance so I shall comply:
I shot this with a Canon Digital Rebel using a 300 mm lens. I was sitting about 20 feet from the dogwood tree from which that beautiful bird was perched.
I can give the EXIF info. if you need that. :) Thanks for your comment.
villageecho--Thanks, hope I don't let you down. :)
villageCHICO--Good gracious, I called you villageECHO. Sorry about that...
