Lula Lake Land Trust

Lula Lake Posted by Hello
Funny how you never realize how some things are RIGHT under your nose.

My friend Kandi and I drove three hours to get good shots in Shelbyville, Tennessee, when Lula Lake Land Trust was right under our noses on Lookout Mountain. It's beautiful there and we grew up less than 15 miles from there. I'd always heard about it but it was closed to the public for several years for various reasons.

My Dad told me that my great-grandmother's husband (which would've been my step-great-grandfather) had a nephew and the nephew and his girlfriend were kidnapped near this Lula Lake Land Trust and were held, tortured, raped, and eventually murdered there in the woods. True story, happened in the 60's.

My Dad's stories are the reason I won't go hiking anywhere by myself. Or in another room by myself. ;)

Anyway, back to the Land Trust: we are going to try and go back there when they open again. They are only open two weeks out of a month. If you'd like to see more of Lula Lake Land Trust you can visit my Flickr account and visit http://www.lulalake.org.

Enjoy. :)
