Wind-Chapped

Cain played in the varsity and junior varsity games today and my face is so chapped from the wind that I look like a tomato. It's really attractive I'm sure. We lost both games, by the way. It's a real downer. We haven't won a game yet. But let me say again, that we are playing quad-A schools and we are single-A.

My grandpa called me today and asked if I wanted to come out and go through some of the things that belonged to my grandmother. Apparently his house caught fire two weeks ago and no-one bothered to call and tell me. That really frustrates me. That's one of the reasons that I wish we lived back on the mountain. I feel so disconnected from everyone. :( Anyway, back to his house: I don't know if you can say it actually caught fire--but something happened with his furnace and he said that everything in the house was covered in soot. ("Soot" is a funny word, isn't it?) I sure hated to hear that. I'm just so thankful that HE was ok and that the house is ok. That house was my dad and his siblings childhood home. I'd be so sad if anything ever happened to it. :(

When I called him back this evening to tell him that Cain played longer than we thought and that we could come up tomorrow he said, "Well you can still come up tonight and visit with me if you want to" (something to that effect, I don't rememer his exact words). I was pleasantly surprised. If you knew my grandfather you'd know he doesn't say things like that. Ever. I can't wait to see him. I do want to spend time with him. We need to spend time with everyone in our family. It just seems like there's never any time.

Brooke is coming home this Friday. :) I can't wait to see her. I wish she'd stay longer than she's planning on staying, but she can't. :(

The photo above is a cedar waxwing and the first that I've ever seen in my yard in the six years we've lived in our house. There was a flock of them, around 10 and they were SO beautiful. I wish they'd stick around, but I think they are just migrating through. :( Pretty, ain't it?

That is a beautiful photo. Cedar waxwings are one of my favorite birds.
Say, don't you have birthday coming up this month?

beautiful photo! I've been keeping up with what you've been writing and for your past few entries this question keeps popping into my mind. Why is Cain's school playing quad A schools if there's is only single A?

o'tim~Well, I don't like to discuss it but yes, in only 15 days I'll be having a birthday. :D

Liz~Seems silly, doesn't it? There are six teams in our region in single A, including us, and only one of those schools are close by. Otherwise we have to drive 1-2 hours away to play other schools as small as we are. These bigger schools that we're playing now are just to have games, they won't count in any standings. :) Oh, and can you email me the link to your blog? The link I have for you is bad. :(
